My passion and expertise are the use of non-intrusive techniques for investigating structures to determine how they are built and what defects may lie hidden beneath the surface. I specialise in developing tailored non-destructive techniques to image the subsurface of structures. I have spent my career utilising existing technology to provide solutions to client’s problems and undertake unique surveys to map features in the subsurface. Examples of unique undertakings include mapping timber floor construction in historic buildings, mapping deterioration in artificial turf pitches, mapping heritage stonework and masonry for defects and embedded metal, and utilising array systems to map linier services along rail tracks.

I work to promote the use of GPR and other NDT methods for assessment of concrete, structures (both contemporary and heritage) and roadways. My broad range of GPR knowledge and experience allows me to determine the best equipment, methods and analysis techniques for each job ensuring that the best possible results are obtained. While I have made a career in specialist surveys, I have undertaken a wide range of more traditional GPR surveys for the mapping of structures and their elements. This has provided me a solid understanding in the construction methods of structures and reinforcement layouts. I have experience in undertaking site works, in depth data interpretation and reporting, and QA of others reports.

I have utilised my experience to train several GPR Surveyors, often with limited or no GPR experience, to be able to complete complex surveys and reporting themselves. Training was undertaken though one site training, working together on the data interpretation and reporting, and classroom sessions.
